​Who can become a member?

The coopérative d'habitation de la Haute Rive d'Aylmer is open to anyone who wants to get involved in their living environment.

What is a member?

A member is a person living in the cooperative that associates itself with other people living in the cooperative to collectively provide access to the use of affordable housing.

​

Living in a cooperative housing has certain responsibilities and implications. Here are those that are specific to the Coopérative d'habitation de la Haute Rive d'Aylmer:

​

- beeing an active member in a committee of the cooperative;

- be present at the Annual General Meeting;

- take part in the two days of chores;

- live with respect for others.

How to apply for housing?

Express your interest

Call the cooperative to make an appointment with the Selection Committee to complete the necessary  to open your file.

 

Appointment with the Selection committee

At your appointment with the Selection Committee you must provide the following information:

​

- most recent notice of assessment;

- copy of your lease or proof of payment of rent;

- proof of legal custody of the children; if applicable;

- proof of Canadian citizenship; if applicable;

- medical certificate confirming pregnancy; if applicable;

- reference letter from a social worker; victim of domestic violence only;

- Medical certificate attesting the handicap of a person resident in the dwelling, if applicable.

Attend a selection interview

​Once we have an apartment available, the Selection Committee will invite you for an interview. Applications are evaluated in function of the following criteria:

​

- the desire to get involved in the cooperative;

- knowledge of cooperative housing and it's lifestyle;

- strong sense of community;

- income;

- your background as a tenant;

- personal experience or special talents.

 

Acceptance as a member

    If you meet all the criteria mentioned above, the Selection Committee will give you the rules of internal management and the building regulations for you to read it. Following this reading you will proceed to the signing of your membership contract and of your lease.

You now need to integrate a committee and the lifestyle of your cooperative.
